Student Art Exhibitions – A Pedagogy of Empowerment
Over the previous 18 years of this annual exhibitions program, we have amplified the range of every student artist’s voice by displaying their artwork through both our physical and online galleries.
This critical function of amplifying student voice continues to be a central consideration in displaying the collections we have had the pleasure in sharing over the years. It has meant that this exhibition, along with all its predecessors, has provided a space where we can discover what students are thinking and what they are wanting to say to us through their artwork.
With the benefit of an emerging exhibitions history, we have noted the changes and shifts in the shared culture of young people. We have also noted that the exhibition as a place of learning about young people and their complex views follows its own unique pedagogy. This pedagogy is informed through focused observation, understanding of the process of making and the communication of rich and varied concepts.
These factors contribute to the growing awareness, intellectual agility and emotional resilience that our students and the wider community can connect to, through the artworks in this collection, to find a place of reflection and empowerment.
