I designed and created a series of media works based on the genre of documentary photography. To create this work, I used the technical codes of lighting and setting to create my visual style. I was also interested in creating a visual experience of the COVID-19 lockdown and the impact it had on children. I based this idea on my little sister, Grace (8), who had been undergoing year 1 and 2 in the 2020-21 lockdowns. I had noticed that whilst she and my other sisters have extraordinary imaginations and are very bright, bubbly young girls, they also has to deal with the complexity of lockdowns and they also had times where they felt wronged by isolation. I thought this was interesting to witness as I had never seen them feel quite as frustrated as I did during the lockdown and it became a great opportunity to capture something real that everyone can understand.

The use of the light in the photograph creates such a strong contrast that I’m left feeling that there is great sadness or despair. It is a beautiful and powerful image.
