The painting is of a cow from an urban farm in Melbourne called Collingwood Children’s Farm, with reference to a photograph the artist took there. ‘Of a Cow’ was originally created as part of an instructor-directed task in the International Baccalaureate Visual Arts Course in Year 11. It was done in oils because the artist’s IB instructor wanted to give the artist a new experience. With help from their instructor, the cow picture was selected as the most suitable because it was of the most ‘life like’ taken on the day, and the clearest animal portrait.
