This artwork reflects on conformity and individuality. The crowd, painted in muted blue tones, represents uniformity and social pressure to blend in. In contrast, the lone yellow figure steps beyond the crowd scene, symbolising resistance and the courage it takes to stand apart from social norms that consume many.
When I first looked at this piece, it made me think of John Brack’s Collins St, 5pm, but a more contemporary, urban version. I really like the way the artist has used colour to convey mood, and create a sense of conformity vs originality
