Welcome from the Chief Executive
Independent Schools Victoria is delighted to welcome student artists, their families, the artistsā teachers and guests to our fifth annual art exhibition.
This year, for the first time, we are including digital and multimedia in the collection of artwork.
The use of new media and moving imagery has become a vital part of all aspects of student learning. It is one of the fastest growing subjects in the school curriculum.
This is not surprising when one sees the growth in digital technology and the speed with which it is embraced by young people. The use of electronic media is a part of everyday life and will expand in the future.
Students who learn to understand and take advantage of new media opportunities will be the designers and the innovators of tomorrow.
As you will see in our first multimedia program, students of all ages have taken the first steps into the future with work ranging from animated sequences created by junior students, to documentary and website designs completed by senior students.
I would also like to draw your attend to the visual tributes created by our students to mark the Black Saturday fires.
Independent Schools Victoria has sponsored a copper branch, created by the Australian Blacksmiths Association that will be part of a tree of remembrance. On the branch will be messages of support and hope for the future from our schools.
The exhibition features studentsā art work that reflects personal and community loss and the opportunity for renewal as individuals recover and communities rebuild.
As in past years, our collection of art work has been gathered from Member Schools across the state.
We congratulate the student artists, their teachers and schools, and thank Anne Smith, our Arts Education Programs Manager, and Melinda Hargreaves, our Project Officer, Student Display, for assembling another wonderful collection.
