Welcome to our Sixth Arts Exhibition
There are many reasons why Independent Schools Victoria is proud of our annual arts exhibition.
The imagination and vitality captured in each work of art amazes us every year. We enjoy the excitement of the artists as they show their work to families and friends and we admire the dedication and skill of their art teachers who have recognised and nurtured youthful talent.
Thirteen of our Member Schools from across Victoria have provided art in two and three dimensional, multimedia and digital genres for this exhibition. The digital media collection includes new works as well as highlights from our first Independent Schools Victoria Film Festival, which marked Children’s week in October, 2010.
Digital technology is an integral part of classroom practice to attain learning outcomes for all curriculum areas. Students are employing a global visual language to engage with, and reflect the world around them. They are using and creating new media in different educational, commercial and social contexts.
Arts programs can improve educational outcomes. Artistic endeavours often enhance students’ potential to engage in learning because their self-esteem is increased. They have greater confidence in themselves and the contribution they can make, which helps them to be more positive. Working co-operatively as a team improves social and communication skills.
Students learn to plan, and to accept that persistence is needed to achieve goals. The arts encourage high order thinking, assisting decision-making and the ability to see more than one solution to a problem. Artists turn challenges into opportunities. This final point explains why we are surrounded by such exciting works of art.
Please enjoy the exhibition and celebrate with pride the success of the artists of today – and tomorrow.
