The Arts
The arts open doors to skills and dispositions for learning that provide young people with the tools to enable them to succeed in a complex and rapidly changing world. The arts can initiate critical thinking on a diverse range of issues and the challenges facing our contemporary global community. Through the creative process, students can formulate ideas and an artistic dialogue for change and possible solutions. The arts can turbo charge curiosity, problem solving skills and self-expression, providing the positive foundations required for young learners.
‘This dialogue connects the diverse voices and the many stories in the arts learning conversation.’
Independent Schools Victoria (ISV) believes that the arts play a central role in the education of young people. Since 2005, we have presented our Annual Student Art Exhibition, where the work of student artists is displayed, allowing schools and the wider community to appreciate a vast array of diverse ideas, technical skills and complex approaches to creativity.
Our Annual Student Art Exhibitions have formed a vital link in the creative process by bringing together artist, artwork and audience, and through this connection, building a platform for young learners and their emerging world view. Through their artworks, student artists can ask the questions that interest them about their world and begin to contemplate the possible answers.

Our growing archive of past collections and current exhibitions as presented here in isArtworks, is a continuing visual dialogue across time and space. This dialogue connects the diverse voices and the many stories in the arts learning conversation as explored by ISV, our Member Schools and their communities, their teachers, and most importantly for the creation of the future, our student artists. We look forward to sharing future exhibitions and the unfolding new visions that these will bring to enrich us all.
